I Ordered My Future Yesterday

Julie Cox is no ordinary woman. Born in the Philippines, she’s carved out an amazingly fruitful life after overcoming a plethora of obstacles which would have broken a lesser person. In her new book, I Ordered my Future Yesterday, Julie recounts the trials and tribulations she’s faced, from being raped twice and left for dead, living in extreme poverty, experiencing the death of various loved ones, and giving up for adoption the baby she had after being raped a second time. Julie recounts the ups and downs of her life from living for two years scavenging as a semi-orphan amid a garbage dump at the U.S. Naval Base at Subic Bay to moving from the Philippines to the United States. Upon arriving in the U.S., she began a series of odd jobs which eventually led her to a successful sales career at a Fortune 500 company. During this time, she was also busy building her dream resort and academic training center in the Philippine islands one step at a time. And now, through sheer hard work and crafty planning, she’s halfway toward her goal of becoming a millionaire. Even if you’re broken, negative, bitter, depressed, outmanned, and outgunned, nothing can stop you from finding your destiny!”

I Ordered My Future Yesterday

“Believe in God. Everything happens for a reason. What sometimes breaks us makes us stronger, and in the end your strength will be unbreakable under any circumstances.”

(by: Zen Trinidad-The Kliping Times)
If you think that your life is on the brink of breaking, stop for a while. If you feel that you nowhere to run to, take a deep breath for a moment. If what you are doing right now leads to nowhere, find a place to rest. I will tell you a short story.
There was once a child of a carpenter in a barrio of San Antonio, Quezon who use to go to school without slippers and just managed to get an elementary education. Because of dire poverty, she was forced to work in Manila and to help the burden in raising…

The Inner Way

While I was away, a friend left me a copy of Paths to God: Living the Bhagavad Gita by Ram Dass. I probably should have taken that as cue to read it right away, but it sat on my nightstand for several weeks. Yet now that I’ve picked it up, I’m finding the book overflowing with valuable and insightful lessons.

A master storyteller, Ram Dass retells tales from the Gita making them relevant to our everyday lives, sprinkling in a heavy dose of anecdotes, many of them humorous personal reflections on his own pursuit of spiritual happiness. One passage that really got me thinking was about the choice between free will and predetermination. Put simply, it begs the question:

Do you really call the shots or does God have a predetermined plan for you?

Ram Dass points out that we’re used to answering this question in an absolute manner. We…

Glenn Gordon - Always Write

So, just before Christmas five months ago I loaned $50 to a group of women who sew things. That’s them to the right.

They live in Cuidad del Este, Paraguay, and together they call themselves, Mujeres Virtuosas – that is, Virtuous Women.  My micro-loan was a small portion of the $3,225 they had requested to purchase fabrics, thread, needles, buttons, and other supplies as they strive day to day to give their families the basics of a worthy life without hardships.

Last month they repaid my loan in full.  That’s right; my $50 was back in my account, as was the other $3,175 into other loaners’ accounts. And 6,800 miles away in Cuidad del Este fifteen women are on a self-supporting path to a better life.

The Responsive Universe

I will say it again… If you are not happy now, you will not be happy anywhere…

I know this sounds like a strong and somewhat blatant statement. How can this proclamation cover all circumstances and situations? Well, I can only speak and write from experience and it is experience where some of my thoughts and energy arise. I certainly do not know everything, but I do know this…  We need to be happy in our core being – from the inside out or we will not find happiness anywhere. I have lived near the beach most of my life. I even moved to Hawaii for several years in search of happiness and paradise. I used to think that changing my surroundings, job and friends would change my happiness. I used to fantasize about making lots of money thinking it would bring comfort and contentment only to find suffering and frustration as…
